With the recent launch of the V-8-powered Genesis, Hyundai has beckon that it’s ready to climb into the luxury sedan market. And now, the desirous of success South Korean car company is keeping up the momentum and unveiling the 2011 Hyundai Equus, with its sights aimed squarely at premium cars from Lexus and Mercedes-Benz.

Powering Hyundai’s latest flagship is the 4.6-liter dohc Tau V-8 that also sees duty in the Genesis sedan. The Tau is fitted with Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing and variable induction, with peak horsepower rated at 385 bhp when premium fuel is used, and 378 bhp with regular. A 6-speed ZF automatic transmission with Shiftronic manual mode sends the engine’s 333 lb.-ft. of torque (324 with regular fuel) to the rear wheels.

Equus engineers began with a generous use of high-strength steel in the chassis to provide a rigid base for the electro-hydraulic variable-assist power steering and all-around multilink suspension. And just like many other premium sedans, the Equus relies on electronically controlled air suspension with variable damping to provide a supple ride in normal driving, or a firmer sport setting when the driver feels a bit more racy.

2011 Hyundai Equus Price

The Hyundai Equus will go on sale November 1 as a 2011 model. Its price somewhere in the mid-$50,000 to mid-$60,000 range. The company projects to sell around 2000 to 3000 Equuses a year. And judging by all the features, Hyundai should have no problems finding buyers for its new luxury flagship.

As per a repost by Times of India, some vendors of Tata have revealed that the Tata Nano with a Diesel engine maybe launched this year by September 2011. Earlier we got an information about the Tata Nano Diesel launch scheduled for 2012. This diesel engine will be a small engine of nearly 800 CC capacity and around 40 BHP of maximum power. Its will be a CRDI Diesel engine with a turbocharger for high fuel efficiency and performance. It is expected that the Tata Nano Diesel will cost about 20% more compared to the similar petrol variants. Also by then, Tata Nano V2 might be launched, in which case, the Tata Nano Diesel will have all the features of the Tata Nano V2 which includes 5 speed transmission, power steering and many more improvements.

The initial cost and maintenance cost of a Diesel engine is usually higher and Tata Nano is a car which is targeted to a price-sensitive buyer, which might make it a bit difficult to market. However the running cost of a Diesel car is usually less in India because of cheap diesel prices in India when compared with petrol prices. Also the efficiency of diesel engines is also usually more which means more miles out of per litre of Diesel.
